Why should I go to the New Member Class on Sunday afternoons on November? Should I become a member of this church? What are the benefits of membership? What are the responsibilities? What are the truths this church believes? How does our church finances work? How does this local church relate to the Southern Baptist Convention, the State Convention, and our local Association? How do Church members have greater opportunities for ministry? How can I serve in one of the many groups that are open only to members? We answer these questions and more.
And if you are already a member of our church we invite you to attend and learn more about being a member. In week 1 we study salvation, baptism, and how it relates to church membership. We explore Baptism in the Bible and learn why we baptize by immersing people under the water. We explain how baptism relates to membership in our church. We study Personal Discipleship in week 2. We discuss the importance and practice of Bible study, prayer, worship, fellowship with other believers, and sharing Christ with others. In week 3 we discover Southern Baptists beliefs. We study the beliefs we hold as essential and the importance of the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. We talk about how we do foreign missions and missions here in North America. We learn about giving and the Cooperative Program through which we fund missions and our 6 seminaries. We explore the vital roles of the Lottie Moon Christmas offering and the Annie Armstrong Easter offering. We conclude in week 4 by discussing First Baptist Walnut Cove and our ministry, worship, and missions. We discuss the results of a Spiritual Gifts Survey you take and explore ways you can use your spiritual gifts. We cover communications of our church, expectations of the church and the members, our church constitution, our budget, and take a class survey so we can learn how to improve the class. If you want to take the class, but it does not fit your schedule please let us know so we can make it available to you at another time. And if you miss one week we want to schedule a time so you can make it up. I eagerly look forward to seeing you there! Pastor Pat
